Fuel tank faded to semi transparent except where decals are, easy to see fuel level. I remember reading an interview with an American motocross pro, can’t remember who it was, who said they were so good “it was like cheating”. EDITOR’S COMMENT: I could wax lyrical about the R100S — a great classic bike from the ’70s — but it’s the Steib sidecar that’s the star of this show for me.
We had a short blast on a similar Electra Glide a couple of years ago; read our report here. All components refurbished, frame and panels professionally painted. Starter clutch and clutch refurbed, engine split and checked. (Fuel economy went from 175 per tank to nearly 300 per tank.) Braided stainless steel brake lines and new brake linings fitted.
EDITOR’S COMMENT: The MC19 was a slightly down-spec version of the better-known MC22, but shares that wonderfully loopy four-cylinder engine and weighs just 153kg. He also played some big roles after his time with Husqvarna, being one of the people who convinced Yamaha to buy the rights to a single-shock rear suspension system in the early 1970s (‘mono shock’ as it was called then), and being a big player in the rebirth of four stroke motocross bikes as a driving force behind the Yamaha HL500. In very good condition both mechanically and cosmetically and ridden quite regularly. As well as the featherbed frame and Roadholder front, I reckon those rear shocks are Marzocchi. It’s outside my financial capacity, I’m afraid, or I would have taken this one for myself. She was alone, neglected, and just waiting for a dance. I found an excellent website on the early Ducati’s. SELLER SAYS: Selling my beloved 1199 ABS Panigale with full service history and new front/rear tyres. This bike has been dyno tuned and comes with the complete service manual, user manual, receipts and all of the original parts including spare keys, small toolkit and stock exhaust system. I guess it does look like a lightweight if you park one alongside a Goldwing (but so does a Hyundai Getz). It runs perfectly and I’ve never had a drama with it. Corser won five World Superbike races in 2000, almost delivering Aprilia a WSB title in its first attempt.
And Torsten Hallman was a giant of the sport back in those early days. This one of Ace’s is more than 20 years old but looks like it’s just rolled out of the Milwaukee factory. SELLER SAYS: 1980 manufacture (81 Model) VIN 6250410. EDITOR’S COMMENT: It’s hard to imagine a cooler old-school motorcycle than a Commando-based cafe racer. I wasn’t even looking for love when I walked into a backwater dealer test riding bikes to waste time. The Darmah put Ducati back on track and sold like hotcakes. Genuine Ducati exhaust silencers for the community minded rider (0). Bike comes with rear seat cowl as well as pillion seat and foot pegs. EDITOR’S COMMENT: I’ve never thought the ST1100 deserved its Sports-Tourer naming — it sure looks like a tourer to me, without much ‘sport’ happening visually — but owners love them to bits and rave about their highway performance and twisty-bit competence. Aussie Troy Corser and Japan’s Noriyuki Haga proved the Mille was the real deal in the early 2000s.
Email [email protected] one good-quality photo, no more than 200 words about the bike, plus your contact details. I love this bike, the only reason to sell it is I can’t handle it now, even with the lowered seat. There really is no finer way to cover the miles of this magnificent country, than from the saddle of a Indian Roadmaster. The 111 motor in its stock form offers more than enough torque to get the bike wherever you want to go, at whatever pace. Contact Brent on 0402427484 EDITOR’S COMMENT: A blast from the past here, reaching right back near the dawn of big-bore two stroke motocrossers. I spoke with Lloyd about this lovely Ajay during the week. The tank has been professionally enamel coated on the inside. As she was my first love, I didn’t want to take her racing and bought another two. The time has come, however for us to have a conscious uncoupling. It would not require too much time and money to restore as the mechanicals are in such good order. But as this motor cycle is 75 years old it is not original and although the odometer shows 18, 413 miles, the actual milage is unknown. EDITOR’S COMMENT: Steeped in history for their role in World War II, it’s said that modern man’s infatuation with motorcycling evolved from the soldiers who returned home after seeing and riding WLAs during the war. Long list of restoration and improvements, including complete engine/gearbox strip and rebuild, new 38mm Mikuni Flat slide carbs with new pod filters, full Yoshimura 4-into-1 race exhaust, later GSXR1100 17″ rear wheel, 2006 GSXR600 front end, new Nitron race rear shock set up for 90kg rider, new tyres, etc.
We’ll come back to you with payment instructions (including a Pay Pal option). All bikes must be available for viewing in Western Australia and must be ‘something special’. In excess of ,000 spent, using parts from Yamiya. Last year, I upgraded the bike to the Stage 2 Indian cams, and hi-flow air filter, which really gives the motor a new lease of life and improves both the fuel economy and get up and go. EDITOR’S COMMENT: I took my wife for a three-day ride a month or so ago on an Indian Roadmaster down south, and had a ball. Yamaha’s YZ360 was outrageously big and outrageously fast — and still is. Ltd wore old Albert’s name but had Harry Stevens as managing director, George Stevens as commercial manager, Joe Stevens Junior as manager of the company’s R&D division, and Jack Stevens as production manager. He told me it looked magnificent, and that it goes as good as it looks. Spokes have been replaced with stainless steel spokes. She feels I have too many other bikes in my life and she is after someone with more fire in their riding. There are a few on the market at the moment; this looks like either a great starting point for a full restoration or an easy project to become a regular ride. There’s a good timeline on the official HD website; read it here. She has only covered 3200km since the rebuild (originally 79,000km) and I have changed the engine oil and filter every 500km.
SELLER SAYS: 1982 Ducati Darmah that I’ve had in the shed for a while. SELLER SAYS: Fairy original 1975 Laverda SF2 in excellent condition. A matching-numbers bike that has had a lot of money spent on her in the last year: tyres, shocks, mufflers, fork seals/oil, DMC 2 ignition/neulogy coil, carbs redone, kevlar friction discs/plates, clutch springs, primary chain, etc. EDITOR’S COMMENT: I spotted this bike a couple of weeks ago and it’s a beauty.
